Chinese National Curriculum

OCACW is a Chinese school with global originality。The curriculum is based and focused on the Chinese National Content using the IBO framework to support our students to accumulate the knowledge as well as to develop real-life skills, in a real immense dual language learning environments.
Consistently linking elements from the CNC, the curriculum structure of OCACW is as follows:

Primary School:

Junior secondary courses:

International Baccalaureate (IB) Curriculum Framework

Primary Years Programme (PYP)
OCACW is an IB continuum candidate school pursuing authorization. IB world schools share a common philosophy -a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international-education- that we believe is important for our students.

Nursery – Grade 5
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 3 to 12. The PYP transdisciplinary framework focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both at school and beyond. Informed by research into how students learn, how educators teach, and the principles and practice of effective assessment, the programme places a powerful emphasis on inquiry-based learning.
By choosing to implement the PYP, schools will develop students’ academic, social and emotional wellbeing, focusing on international-mindedness and strong personal values. The PYP nurtures independent learning skills, encouraging every student to take responsibility for their learning. The programme incorporates local and global issues into the curriculum, asking students to look at six related, transdisciplinary themes and to consider the links between them. The themes include ‘who we are’, ‘where we are in place and time’ and ‘how the world works’. The PYP delivers excellent results for students aged 3 to 12. For example:
  • PYP students outperformed non-IB students in mathematics, reading and writing in a global International Schools’ Assessment study that ran from 2009-2011
  • A 2014 national study in Australia found that students in the PYP perform better than the national average in nationwide science tests

Taking on the PYP is a path of discovery. The PYP invigorates learning and teaching and transforms school community and culture.

Middle Years Programme (MYP)
OCACW is an IB continuum candidate school pursuing authorization. IB world schools share a common philosophy -a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international-education- that we believe is important for our students.

Grades 6 – 10
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) is for students aged 11-16. The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to between their studies and the real world. The MYP is a five-year programme, which can be implemented in a partnership between schools, or in several abbreviated (two, three or four year) formats.

Students who complete the MYP are well-prepared to undertake the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP). The MYP curriculum framework comprises eight subject groups, providing a broad and balanced education for early adolescents. The MYP requires at least 50 hours of teaching time for each subject group, in each year of the programme. In the final two years of the programme, carefully-defined subject group flexibility allows students to meet local requirements and personal learning goals. In the final year of the programme, optional MYP eAssessment provides IB-validated grades based on examinations and course work. Students who undertake external assessment are eligible for MYP course results and the IB MYP Certificate. The MYP is inclusive by design; students of all interests and academic abilities can benefit from their participation. Implementation of the MYP is a whole-school endeavour, although the programme can accommodate academically-selective models.

Diploma Programme (DP)
OCACW is an IB continuum candidate school pursuing authorization. IB world schools share a common philosophy -a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international-education- that we believe is important for our students.

Grades 11 – 12
(The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is for students aged 16-19.

Research suggests that there are many benefits to choosing the Diploma Programme (DP). The programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. The Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay. Through the Diploma Programme (DP) core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service. The International Baccalaureate® (IB) assesses student work as direct evidence of achievement against the stated goals of the Diploma Programme (DP) courses.
